Llegada (Arrival)

So far so good. Actually great! The upgrade to business class from Chicago to Barcelona was awesome: gourmet food and desserts, fully reclining seats, personal tv screens, complimentary travel kits, warm wet clothes, free champagne and wine. I also got to share the ridiculous experience with a girl named Jennifer who also got bumped up. It was a lot of fun.
My connection went pretty smoothly and I made it safely to Barcelona. I absolutely love my apartment. It's very spacious with a foyer, living room with couches and a tv, a dining room, a kitchen/laundry room, a half bath, a full bath, and 4 bedrooms. Here's the even better part...I'm the only one other than the live-in RA who got a single room! My own space....My roommates are really nice and the RA is very friendly and understanding too. She's 26 and a native to Barcelona so she definitely knows what is going on. I also just found out that besides me and my 4 other female roommates there are only 3 other males in the Spanish Language Apartment Program - much smaller and more competitive than I thought. It's gonna be great, I'm already learning so much and gaining more confidence in my speaking abilities. Two of my roommates are practically already fluent because they grew up with the language...I can only hope I'll get there too.
Today me and one of my roommates Kelly explored a little bit of Barcelona and ate at a tapas restaurant. The city is so unique and beautiful at the same time (and I've only seen a small section of it)! The avenues criss-cross everywhere but running down the middle is a park-like tree -ined walking/biking path. The urban planning might drive Dad nuts but you'd have to appreciate the effort gone into making a city more attractive. There's wonderful architecture at every turn and I can't wait to explore beyond the walking radius.
I'm exhausted and haven't slept really since Saturday night, so I need to get to sleep. We already planned out a shower schedule for the morning so that we get out of here on time and off to orientation. I miss you all already and can't wait to talk to you. Love you all.

Hi DD --
So happy to hear your flight was such an experience...I am jealous!
I have only walked thru the "business/1st class" section.
Can't believe you got upgraded. Then to meet a college student and having someone to share the fun with made it even better.
Your apartment sounds great too. Also can't believe you got lucky again and got your own room! I was very impressed when you told us how everything was so organized thru the school with room assignments etc...that makes it so much easier on everyone.
Can't wait to hear how orientation goes tomorrow and the rest of the week. You are going to meet so many people!
Keep in touch. Thank you so much for the immediate update..love hearing about everything.
Thought about you all day and wondered how things were going.
I am so proud of you and admire your independence.
Have a great time, stay safe, enjoy it all!
Love you, Mom
